The Weitzel & Andrew Home Team's Favorite Pumpkin Patches and Farms for Halloween Pumpkins

It’s Spooky Season in the Pacific Northwest and that means it’s also pumpkin season! And apple season. And corn maze season. And scarecrow season. And cider season. Some may simply call it the Best Season. Whatever your name for this wondrous time of year, we hope you have plans to get out and enjoy it.

On the off chance that you don’t know where you’d like to go to experience all things fall related, we’re here to help! As long time residents of both Whatcom and Skagit Counties, we’ve spent a lot of Spooky Seasons in the area and have visited a lot of farms and pumpkin patches along the way. Here are some of our favorites that we recommend to friends, family, and every one in between.

Bellewood Farms in Belligham, WA

Bellewood Farms and Distillery

Bellewood Farms: 6140 WA-539 #3, Lynden, WA 98264

BelleWood Acres has been around since the 90’s, but quickly became a staple of the area when it opened to the public for U-Pick apples in the 2000’s and even more so when they expanded with a storefront several years later. Now under new, still local, ownership and rebranded as Bellewood Farms, they have a farmstore, gift shop, distillery, and cafe where you can purchase locally grown fruit, gifts created by local artists, foods from local companies, and bourbon, liqueur, gin, and more drinks distilled with their own apples and pumpkins.

Speaking of apples and pumpkins, until the end of October you can pick your own! So put on your best fall outfit and head down to the orchard for some cute family photos. It’s the perfect photo op for your upcoming holiday cards.

Schuh Farms in Mount Vernon, WA

Schuh Farms

Schuh Farms: 15565 WA-536, Mount Vernon, WA 98273

Another farm with deep ties to the area is Schuh Farms in Mount Vernon. They began farming in the 60’s and been open to the public for some form of U-Pick since the 70’s. Nowadays the farm has different activities and grown items available for purchase for each season: flowers, starts, and garden gifts in the Spring, strawberries, milkshakes, and bouquets in the summer, and cinnamon rolls, wreaths, and holiday decorations in the winter.

For fall celebrations and fun they have three pumpkin fields, tractor train rides, and host local food vendors. Try not to get lost in the 3 acre corn maze, but if you do, don’t worry, you can always warm up with some apple cider and maybe a cuddle with the goats and chickens.

Gordon Farms in Mount Vernon, WA

Gordon Skagit Farms

Gordon Skagit Farms: 15598 McLean Rd, Mount Vernon, WA 98273

If you want variety in your types of pumpkins (they have over 150 kinds of pumpkins and squash!) and you’re looking for the cutest possible farm to take family photos, this might just be it. Gordon Skagit Farms has been featured in a handful of large publications, including Martha Stewart Living, and it’s clear why when you take a look at their website and photos on social media. Their grounds are perfectly curated to give you an immersive experience where the outside world ceases to exist and the fall season is all that matters.

Bring your boots for the corn maze and U-Pick pumpkins, or stick to their main grounds in your nicer shoes for their hot cider, pre-picked pumpkins, and decorative pieces.

Stoney Ridge Farm in Everson, WA

Stoney Ridge Farm

Stoney Ridge Farm: 2092 Van Dyk Rd, Everson, WA 98247

Stoney Ridge is open for very limited hours on Fridays and Saturdays, but it’s worth the trip to Everson if those days work for you. Stoney Ridge is quite a large farm, with massive fields available for both U-Pick pumpkins and U-Cut or pre-cut Christmas trees starting after Thanksgiving. There is an admission fee of $6 per person with free entry for children 2 and under, but the fee provides access to things like corn mazes, apple bin mazes, farm animals, live music, and tractor rides. While you’re there, make sure to grab some of their min apple cider donuts or food from JT’s BBQ and Cicchitti’s Pizza on Saturdays.

Mama’s Garden

Mama’s Garden: 2600 Valley Hwy, Deming, WA 98244

If you’ve ever driven on Highway 9 between the south end of Lake Whatcom and the Mt Baker Highway, then you’ve likely noticed the adorable farm stand at Mama’s Garden. What you may not have noticed is just how many products are listed for sale on their sign. From grass-fed beef to an incredibly long list of vegetables that are grown through the summer, there’s something for everyone that wants to shop local and simultaneously fuel themselves with healthy food. But for those of you reading this in search of pumpkins, they have those too! There are over 20 different kinds of pumpkins available for purchase from the stand and cute photo-ops as well.

While you’re in the area, take note that just down the road is Alpine Meadows Christmas Tree Farm and scope out your tree for the holidays. If you’re heading south on Hwy 9 to get home, stop in at the Acme Diner for delicious breakfast or sandwiches. If you’re taking Hwy 542 to get back to Bellingham, treat yourself with some much deserved Edaleen Dairy ice cream from Nugents Corner Market in, you guessed it, Nugents Corner.

We hope you’re able to make it to one of the aforementioned pumpkin patches, but if not, there’s always next year! If you and your family carve some pumpkins feel free to send us a photo! We’d love to see what you carve.
